Chris believes that dog training starts with the pet owner and is taught to the dog through fair and consistent reward based training. She is considered a balanced trainer varying her techniques based upon the response of the dog. She has realized through the years of working with pet owners that they may not need the same precision/corrective training methods used in most sporting clubs and offers a relaxed yet effective method of training through Ruffners Doggie Day Care.
Classes offered
Training Class: We do not hold the rigidity of competition training nor do we use heavy handed correctional methods. Collar recommendations for puppies are a flat color and for adult dogs, trainer may recommend depending on the response. Trainer reserves the right to refuse any dog that can not be controlled or displays aggressive behaviors. In these cases it is recommended that a behavior modification. Group classes are for pet owners who are seeking general manners and basic obedience; our classes are based on progression. All classes require 6ft leash, no flexi leash, bring treats, favorite toys and your happy voice.
Family Dog - we encourage family participation. Our class is designed for dogs four months and up. We train using both new and old techniques and through class progression, we will teach you how to train your dog to come, sit, stay, wait, down, greeting from stranger, and walk at your side on a loose leash. We practice vet and grooming visits. Other subjects such as: jumping, chewing, nipping, chasing, and door greeting can be discussed.
Kids and their Dogs Trick Training- offered in summer June- September. Ages 10+ parents must be present. Class is designed for fun interaction to straighten the bond between kids and their dogs by teaching them tricks and fun interactive activates that interest both.Dogs must be controllable and we require that your dog being capable of maintaining behavior. This is not a training you may attend Family Dog training first if need be.
While you’re away on business, vacation or at home, your dog is enjoying a happy, healthy and fun learning environment.
Option 2. Train and Play at both locations. Drop your dog off for 5 consecutive days for a ˝ day of play and train; we will work on obedience and manner issues. Option 3. Private Training- .Private Lessons are scheduled for those who wish to work with a professional, building upon their relationship with dog and family. Option 4. In Home Training We come to you! We teach you and your family how to work with your individual dog and working in the environment your dog lives. Visits are flexible.
